Toyota Woven City Officially Launches: “Weaving the Future: Day 01”

On September 25, 2025, Toyota Woven City—a test course for mobility—celebrated its official launch (see press release here). As we began co-creation activities, we held the official launch event to express our gratitude to partners and colleagues who have supported us throughout this journey.

For over half a century, the site where Woven City stands today was home to Toyota Motor East Japan (TMEJ) Higashi-Fuji Plant. Upon the plant’s closure, then-President Akio Toyoda shared for the first time the concept of Woven City during an employee gathering. The history built here, together with the spirit of “For Others”, is carried forward into the future through Woven City.

“Continuing the Story”
Ahead of the official launch, on September 22, we welcomed 125 TMEJ employees who once worked at the Higashi-Fuji Plant to Woven City. During a city tour led by Woven by Toyota (WbyT) employees, guests explored the city while learning about the heritage passed on from the Higashi-Fuji Plant and our ongoing initiatives for future trials. This was followed by a dialogue event, themed as a continuation of the earlier employee gathering, where WbyT Senior Vice President Daisuke Toyoda exchanged thoughts with TMEJ colleagues (see Toyota Times article here).

Official Launch Event Highlights
On the day of the launch, September 25, a program of stage events was held. Weavers (residents) and Inventors joined the stage, alongside inspiring speeches by Daisuke Toyoda and Master Weaver Akio Toyoda, and a live performance by Naoto Inti Raymi, who participated as an Inventor. The event brought together Weavers, Inventors, and WbyT employees in celebration, culminating with fireworks (see Toyota Times article here).

Woven City has now begun its journey as a "Living Laboratory." From here, we will continue creating the future fabric of life.
